Why I Started Good Company Workspace

I never imagined myself opening a business. Until, suddenly, I did.
Looking back, something had been brewing under the surface for a while.
I had made a major career shift, leaving a long-term, part-time position for a full-time corporate role that turned out to be... not exactly my natural habitat. I ran for City Council, got laid off from the corporate job, explored launching a youth volunteer corps, took graduate HR courses, and was moving toward a long-coming divorce. Life felt unsettled. I was restless, pacing the cage and trying to figure out what was next.

Then one conversation changed everything.
A close friend owns a building on Main Street in Marlborough, and while I was job hunting in the fall of 2024 , we started meeting weekly in her office to keep each other company while we worked on our to-do lists. We probably talked as much as we worked, but those afternoons reminded me how energizing it is to share workspace with someone.
That regular rhythm of working together opened my eyes to the power of coworking.
For anyone who has spent long stretches working from home, or working alone in an uninspiring office and trying to stay productive, you probably know the feeling. Sometimes you need more than wi-fi. You need a change of scenery, a little accountability, and the quiet energy of other people building something alongside you.
Our coworking era lasted about three months and during that time, my friend asked me to help evaluate a proposed use for one of her storefronts: a shared artist studio. While that particular project wasn’t the right fit, the idea of creating something community-oriented in that space stuck with me. So when she casually asked, “Would you ever consider opening a business here?” my answer surprised both of us:
Maybe I would.

At first, my ideas wandered wildly. There was a brief phase involving a retail concept featuring local goods, kombucha on tap, and homemade chili, which now feels equal parts charming and mildly unhinged.
When the idea of a coworking space in Marlborough MA surfaced, it clicked.
It felt natural and possible and fun!
I had already experienced the member side of coworking through a previous job in Boston. I understood both the freedom and challenges of remote work too. I knew how deeply our environment shapes focus, creativity, and well-being. I also understood something many freelancers, entrepreneurs, and remote employees discover sooner or later:
Home and work do not always make the best roommates.
That realization became the foundation for Good Company Workspace.
I wanted to create more than just a shared office space in Marlborough. I wanted to create a place where people could feel productive, comfortable, and connected. I especially wanted to create a place without the corporate feel or tech bro culture often found in larger coworking spaces.
Today, Good Company Workspace is open a few blocks from that Main Street storefront that inspired it all. We offer flexible coworking space, meeting space, and conference room rental in downtown Marlborough, where remote workers, entrepreneurs, nonprofits, creatives, and local professionals can settle in for focused work, hold meetings, connect face-to-face with clients and colleagues, or simply enjoy a welcoming place for solo work outside the home.

We also host small events, workshops, and gatherings, making Good Company a flexible small event space in Marlborough MA for community-building and professional connection.
Because community is where the joy lives. It's how humans are wired. That's why Good Company Workspace is about more than a desk and internet connection. It's a place to feel energized, connected and wonderfully human.
If you’ve been working from home and craving a little more focus, energy, or connection, we’d love to meet you. Come tour Good Company Workspace and see how coworking in downtown Marlborough can change your workday.
